Lesson 1 learning objective(s): Students will be able to locate Honduras on a world map
Lesson 1:
- The teacher will give an introductory lesson on Honduras. She will then show the students where Honduras is located on a map. She will ask students in the class what they know. This will propel discussion on the subject and the teacher can see if any students have any prior knowledge about the country. The teacher will then pass out the iPads and have the students go to http://kids.nationalgeographic.com/explore/countries/honduras/#honduras-ocean-port.jpg where students can conduct their own research about Honduras. The teacher will also introduce the project for this unit. The students will be making a booklet about the country of Honduras. The students will cut out handouts and other items that the teacher will give them throughout the unit for students to glue in their book. During the first lesson, the students will make their physical booklet. Supplies for this include colored construction paper, yarn and a 3-hole punch. Once the students have hole punched their construction paper and bound them together with yarn, students will write their name and “Honduras” on the outside cover. The teacher will pass out a map of Honduras and have students color the map. Once they finish, they will cut it out and put it on the first page of their booklet.
